Unit 4: Motivation | Role of work in satisfying human needs

Most people go to work to earn an income. This is partly to give a secure standard of living - but also to give money for luxuries. Some people choose to do whatever job earns them most money. Others may take some of the following non-financial reasons into account:

Job satisfaction is important for a lot of people. Many will take less money if it means they have interesting work, good working conditions, convenient working hours, etc. 
  1. Some people are drawn to work which does good for others - it is more important for them to have a fulfilling job than a well-paid one.
  2. Going to work is also a good way to meet people, make friends and socialise. The unemployment often have fewer opportunities to meet people. 
  3. Working is good for your self-confidence - it makes people think that they are valued by society.
