Most people go to work to earn an income. This is partly to give a secure standard of living - but also to give money for luxuries. Some people choose to do whatever job earns them most money. Others may take some of the following non-financial reasons into account:
Job satisfaction is important for a lot of people. Many will take less money if it means they have interesting work, good working conditions, convenient working hours, etc.
- Some people are drawn to work which does good for others - it is more important for them to have a fulfilling job than a well-paid one.
- Going to work is also a good way to meet people, make friends and socialise. The unemployment often have fewer opportunities to meet people.
- Working is good for your self-confidence - it makes people think that they are valued by society.
