The styles of managing are the different approaches to dealing with people in a position of authority. These are:
Autocratic style
When the managers makes all the decisions and keep information to themselves. It can be effective when managing lots of unskilled workers, or when dealing with a crisis. However, it needs lots of supervision and monitoring - workers can’t make their own decisions. And an autocratic style can demotivate able and intelligent workers.
Democratic style
The manager encourages the workforce to join in the decision making process. They discuss issues with workers, delegate responsibilities and listen to advice. This style of management shows that the manager has a lot of confidence in the workforce, which can lead to increased motivation. It also takes weight of decision making off the manager.
Laissez-Faire Style
Management rarely interferes in the running of the business, leaving the workforce to get on with trying to achieve objectives with very little help or control from the top. This style can be good for a small, highly motivated team of workers who will enjoy having independence and control over their work. But for workers who need guidance, it’d be a bit of a disaster.
